Our Story I

At the Shanghai OrphanageWhen I was 11 years old, I traveled with my family to Shanghai, China to adopt our sister Anna Miao. At the time, I was on a jump rope team called the Kutz Elementary Jumping Beans and I thought it would be fun to bring jump ropes along and show the kids in the orphanage how to jump rope. As I watched them trying to jump rope, I realized that they had never done this before let alone even seen a jump rope before! They were all smiling, laughing, and having such a good time and at that moment I realized this simplest of things – a jump rope – made a difference in their day, week and hopefully their lives.

I decided that it would a good idea to take this to other orphanages around the world and that’s how Ropes for Hopes was born!
